Written by Black Knight, the black Pekingese owned by Lady Munning who finally permitted his personal diary to be published, beginning with his arrival at the family estate in Essex in 1945 and ending with his watching the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II eight years later. In between Black Knight weaves his way through London society and the Royal Court captivating everyone. The Peke even achieves the status of Honorary Freeman of the City of London allowing him such perks as feeding goats on the Embankment of the Thames and hunting polecats in St. Pauls Cathedral. With voluminous press clippings, Black Knight became a well-known tout of winners on the racecourse with his own account at a bookmaker. The oil painting on the dust jacket and frontispiece were done by Sir Alfred Munnings. Sir Alfred also did 25 other drawings interspersed throughout the book. This First Edition was published in 1953 and has 182 pages with four pages of photographs. The dust jacket has several rips and several pieces missing, and is protected with a clear plastic "dust jacket". $49.95 |
